Cipla is also pressing ahead in China, where its plant in Qidong was successfully commissioned during 2021-22 and received a manufacturing license. That takes it closer to regulatory filings in the US and other emerging markets.

To specific queries from Generics Bulletin sister publication Scrip, Cipla’s global CEO Umang Vohra said the company was getting ready for an FDA inspection at the site that's targeted sometime around August-September. “Let's see what happens and how the dates move.”

On whether Cipla may consider recalibrating its China investments amid new risks against the backdrop of a new expanded and wide-ranging anti-espionage law seen having implications in areas like overseas data transfers and business intelligence gathering, Vohra noted the company’s China business is currently small and the firm hadn’t really assessed the impact on aspects like data transfer.
