Pfizer's new corporate Executive Committee will streamline the pharma giant's upper management.

Global Pharmaceuticals President Karen Katen, General Counsel Jeff Kindler and Chief Financial Officer David Shedlarz will each receive the title of vice chairman effective March 3 and will report to CEO Hank McKinnell, Pfizer announced Feb. 24.

Katen will also become Pfizer Human Health president.

Global R&D President John LaMattina, Global Manufacturing President Nat Ricciardi and Senior VP-Science & Technology Peter Corr will now report to Katen.

Corr is responsible for licensing activities, outside partnerships, medical relations and science policy.

As part of the management shift, Worldwide Development President Joe Feczko, who currently reports to both Katen and LaMattina, will serve as Pfizer's chief medical officer.

With the changes to management, Shedlarz will no longer serve as CFO. The position will be filled by Global R&D Senior VP-Finance & Strategic Management Alan Levin, who will report to Shedlarz.

Shedlarz will take on responsibility for Pfizer Human Resources, in addition to his continuing oversight of the company's finance operations, strategic planning, global sourcing and information systems.

Global R&D Senior VP-Human Resources Sylvia Montero will become senior VP-human resources following the departure of Yvonne Jackson March 31.

Kindler, who retains the position of general counsel and corporate compliance officer, will assume responsibility for the company's corporate affairs following the retirement of Senior VP-Corporate Affairs Chuck Hardwick.
