Vertex Commits To Novel Reimbursement Plan For Orkambi In UK, Despite Setback

Despite an initial rejection from NHS England, Vertex remains committed to bringing its novel reimbursement plan to England to secure access to its cystic fibrosis drug, Orkambi.

Vertex still aims to convince NHS England and NICE, the health technology appraisal institute for England and Wales, that its proposed portfolio approach is the best way to get its cystic fibrosis drug, Orkambi (lumacaftor/ivacaftor) to patients and “get ahead” of certain problems in the reimbursement process. Despite the NHS England turning down the proposal last week, Vertex believes that it could repeat the success of this approach in the UK that it has seen in Ireland.
