GB-Policy&Regulation (Premium-1): Lead Exposure Is Still a Problem for Kids, and the Pandemic Has Made It Worse
Lead exposure continues to threaten the health and development of children across the country, despite longstanding efforts to eliminate this toxic hazard from homes, schools, and communities. The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the problem, as lockdowns and school closures have increased children’s time in potentially hazardous environments and disrupted routine lead screenings and prevention programs. Many families, especially those in underserved areas, now face greater challenges in accessing resources and support. As a result, the risk of lead poisoning and its lifelong consequences has grown, underscoring the urgent need for renewed public health attention and intervention.
