The combined Sorin Group SPA and LivaNova PLC will operate under the new name of LivaNova once their merger is complete, expected by the end of September.

The firms announced the new name June 25, four months after Sorin and Cyberonics announced plans to merge. The deal will join the two companies' neuromodulation units with Sorin's cardiac surgery and rhythm management businesses and will broaden the overall global reach of the product mix, the firm's say. Sorin CEO Andre-Michel Ballester will be CEO of the new firm and Cyberonics CEO Daniel Moore will take the non-executive chairman role for the company.

The companies announced the planned leadership team for the merged firm in May, including leaders of the three product business units, Neuromodulation, Cardiac Surgery and Cardiac Rhythm Management. And the combined company's board of directors was unveiled earlier this month.

Sorin's shareholder approved the merger May 26, but Cyberonics stockholders still need to give their OK and some regulatory clearances must be finalized.
