FDA granted PASS' meeting request in a letter indicated as linked to two regulatory dockets for sunscreen topics:

FDA-1996-N-0006, request for comment on eligibility criteria for considering additional conditions in OTC monograph system, opened in October 1996.
FDA-1978-N-0018, the agency's rulemaking for an OTC sunscreen monograph, opened in September 1978.

PASS' letter requesting the meeting was not published in the docket. Federal regulatory docket processes allow some documents to remain confidential and not be published.

according to the OTC monograph comment docket, the Environmental Working Group, an organization in August submitted a letter requesting a meeting with agency officials, but no meeting has been announced. EWG, which is critical of FDA's approval of some sunscreen, skin care and antiseptic ingredients, stated it wants to discuss:

use of certain inactive ingredients in sunscreens;
current testing methods for determining SPF values, and FDA's proposed SPF cap;
EWG's Annual Guide to Sunscreens' findings, scoring methodology and technical review of the results of other studies examining UV protection from sunscreen;
its views on FDA's current standard for broad spectrum protection;
use of other ingredients in sunscreen such as retinyl palmitate.
