Intarcia Therapeutics Inc.; Boston	MidCap Financial and Silicon Valley Bank provided $75m in debt financing.	Intarcia reported the financing alongside top-line results from the last of four Phase III FREEDOM clinical trials – a cardiovascular safety study for lead drug candidate ITCA 650, which is a matchstick-sized osmotic pump that provides continuous delivery of the GLP-1 receptor agonist exenatide for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. ITCA 650 met the primary and secondary endpoints in the 4,000-patient FREEDOM-CVO safety study. Intarcia plans to submit its application for US FDA approval by the end of the third quarter of 2016, which follows a successful head-to-head study that was completed in 2015. G1 Therapeutics Inc.; Research Triangle Park, North Carolina	New investor Cormorant Asset Management led a $47m Series C round with other new investors Aju IB Investment, Cowen Private Investments, Franklin Templeton Investments and Rock Springs Capita. Prior investors also backed the Series C: Eshelman Ventures, Hatteras Venture Partners, Lumira Capital, Medimmune Ventures, Mountain Group Capital, RA Capital and Tavistock Life Sciences. G1 will advance clinical development of its two lead CDK4/6 inhibitors G1T28 and G1T38, and expand its oncology pipeline. Two proof-of-concept studies are under way for G1T28 and G1T38 will enter the clinic later in May. G1 CEO Mark Velleca told Scrip that, "In preclinical studies, G1T38 has demonstrated the potential for better safety and tolerability and less myelotoxicity than other clinical-stage CDK4/6 inhibitors. While we expect that our initial Phase Ib/IIa clinical trial of G1T38 will be in advanced ER+ breast cancer, G1T38 has the potential to be used to treat patients with many other types of CDK4/6-dependent tumors, including castrate-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC), certain types of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and multiple hematological malignancies."
AC Immune SA; Lausanne, Switzerland	The company raised $43.5m by issuing Series E preferred shares to "certain institutions and existing shareholders."	AC Immune will combine the new funding with cash on hand to advance clinical and preclinical therapeutic and diagnostic programs in Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative diseases. Its partner Roche began a Phase III clinical trial for the Alzheimer's candidate crenezumab in February. NovImmune SA; Geneva, Switzerland	Existing shareholders provided $31m in a financing that previously was reported as a $29.8m round as part of a record first quarter of European VC financings. Novimmune will use the money to advance its pipeline of antibody-based drugs for inflammatory diseases, immune-related disorders and cancer. Lead therapeutic candidate NI-0501 is in Phase II/III development for the treatment of hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH), a disease marked by severe hyperinflammation, especially in children.
Acer Therapeutics Inc.; Cambridge, Massachusetts	TVM Life Science Venture VII led an $8.15m Series B round, which also was supported by fellow Series A investor Bukwang Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd. Bukwang bought a minority stake in Acer last year when the company was considering an IPO. (Also see "PharmAsia News business bulletin" - Scrip, 31 July, 2015.)	The cash will fund preparation of a new drug application (NDA) for ACER-002 (celiprolol hydrochloride) to treat the rare connective tissue disorder known as vascular Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (vEDS). Acer also will spend some of the money on manufacturing and clinical development of ACER-001 [sodium phenylbutyrate (NaPBA)] for Maple Syrup Urine Disease (MSUD) and Urea Cycle Disorder (UCD).
