Leveragen inked a multi-target research, option and license agreement on 30 July with Moderna, Inc., to use the former’s single-domain antibody discovery platform to generate a panel of optimized binding modules against therapeutic targets selected by Moderna. Moderna will hold options for development and commercialization rights to the candidates. Leveragen will get an undisclosed upfront payment and research funding, along with the potential to earn development, regulatory and commercial milestone fees, as well as sales royalties. The companies said the collaboration is intended to expand the potential of using single-domain antibodies in mRNA therapeutics. The research could offer promising opportunities to address unmet medical needs, the partners added, since existing models for single-domain antibody discovery often encounter challenges, including restricted antibody diversity and suboptimal immune responses.
