Sanit Technologies LLC is recalling its Durisan Antimicrobial Solutions Hand Sanitizer after its testing found microbial contamination including high levels of Burkholderia cepacia complex and Ralstonia pickettii.

In an announcement posted on 25 March by the Food and Drug Administration, the Sarasota, FL, firm, dba Durisan, said its hand sanitizer contains benzalkonium chloride as an active ingredient and is available online and in stores.

The FDA said it has added the product to the list of do-not-use hand sanitizers it started in 2020 after numerous adulterated products, predominantly those contaminated with methanol, began emerging in the US after the agency eased its manufacturing standards for OTC hand sanitizers to facilitate increased production and meet rising consumer demand due to COVID-19.
