Like the White House, members of Congress noted the anniversary of the Dobbs decision.

“In erasing the constitutional right to abortion, the Court unleashed a health care crisis across America—threatening women’s health and, in some cases, their lives,” said Sen. Dick Durbin, D-IL, in a statement reflecting other Democrats’ observations.

House Energy and Commerce Committee chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers, R-WA, released a statement indicative of Republicans’ view of the Dobbs decision.

“As a nation, we must come together to make sure women and their babies have the care they need at every stage of life. That is why I support pregnancy centers that provide medical care, resources, education, and mentoring to women,” Rodgers said.

Democrats and Republicans also have opposing views of an April ruling in Texas federal court approving a preliminary injunction against sales of mifepristone, the first drug taken during a medical abortion, on a challenge by group of anti-abortion organizations and doctors.

The Supreme Court that month granted applications by the FDA and Danco Laboratories, manufacturer of Mifeprex brand mifepristone, to halt the preliminary injunction, which had been partially upheld by the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. The circuit court's decision in the appeal by the FDA and Danco of the district court ruling is pending following oral arguments on 17 May. Dozens of amicus briefs have been filed in support of the FDA. They include a brief by seven former confirmed or acting FDA commissioners and a brief by 13 former FDA officials.
