Senate appropriators proposed an FDA FY2025 budget larger than their House counterparts at $6.88bn but still short of the White House’s $7.1bn request for the agency. ([A# RS154500])

The Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies bill approved by the Senate Appropriations Committee on 11 July slots $1.195bn for the Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition and related field activities in the Office of Inspections and Investigations. The amount is more than the House bill targets for the FDA’s food safety budget, $1.186bn, and up slightly from the FY2024 appropriation. The Senate committee set the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research’s budget at $2.42bn, up slightly from the FY2024 total and from the $2.37bn included in the House bill passed by the committee on 10 July.
